Buddha Brew - boutique tea package brand

The initial brief was to provide a branding solution to an FMCG food or beverage company.

The popularity of tea houses and flavoured teas was the inspiration behind Buddha Brew. I was somewhat biased in my research for this brand, being a tea lover myself. A reflection of personal style and taste, I came up with the idea of having an oriental theme to the packaging and name of the brand. Just like coffee is a religion for some people, so too is tea. After brainstorming different word associations i was able to pair two words that i thought gave the brand it’s designation and from there the image work was able to be created. 

I experimented with different pattern effects in illustrator and was able to come up with a pattern very significant to a bamboo texture. I also looked into brush effects inspired from japanese calligraphy to bring the logo to it’s final outcome. I then created a vector logo that i could carry across the branding solutions. A colour coding system that gives the consumer a clear indication of the flavours in the box was also devised for the packaging. Various colours were taken from the ingredients and incorporated into the logo on the top of the box. 

The final result is a packaging indicative of oriental quality. 

It can either be purchased in a franchise situation or as a bespoke item available for consumption in various specialty tea shops or supermarket outlets.

Horror Film Festival brochure.

Act For Change Festival 

The festival was to bring awareness to the community of Vancouver in Canada, about green practices. I created the typography from simple geometric shapes as a symbolism to coming together and working together. I then took individual shapes and scattered them into the background as a means of representing a crowd. A sympathetic colour palette of red, pink and orange were chosen to represent the lively atmosphere. The hint of lime green was to represent the environmental aspect of the festival.

Sew It Goes Vintage Store 

Featuring a bespoke typeface for the logo and supporting text using a typeface known as The Serif, i created a vintage store. The brief was to expose the store as being vintage but also be very ‘up-to-the-times’. Vintage made-to-order was born.

My design stems from a feminine, 50’s revival-esque style. Somewhere you could buy the ultimate Little Black Dress. And so much more. The small grey polka-dots beneath a soft pink/peach help to lift the heavy use of black used in the logo’s image. I also wanted to illustrate that it was made-to-order so i incorporated a cut of fabric. A circular shape complimented the centre-aligned type perfectly. The use of the pin subtly holding it into place, strengthens the design and ties the whole vision together.

I further addressed the made-to-measure emphasis by incorporating a measuring tape to the website and the voucher. On the voucher, i mirrored them on the back to draw attention to the “Lovely Vintage” statement.  On the website it was used as a visual strengthener for a made-to-measure section on the site.

REFRACT - LONDON FASHION WEEK

A4 folded to A5 brochure.

Refract means: to make (a ray of light) change direction when it enters at an angle.

I wanted to communicate this in the design. I used a lot of screen affects and multiply effects to achieve the final outcome. I also used triangular shapes in the design to tie into the refract name. The use of pink seems creates a soft feminine feel.

Sonata FM

Classic radio station logo and stationary.

I created this logo by taking apart an S from a typeface called Optima Bold. The clean lines of this sans serif enabled me to manipulate the lines and shapes more effectively than with a serif font. Once i overlapped them into a workable shape, i joined them together again and took the manipulation further from there. A number of versions later, i come up with a solution that i thought looked like a musical stave and the shape of how music flows in the air.

Pantone Uncoated was chosen as i envisaged the stock of the stationary to be of a thicker quality with a hint of texture. Pantone 275U was chosen because of it’s rich quality and because the hint of an almost royal blue, mixed with a rich purple, would fair well with it’s ratio of male to female audiences. I also wanted to promote a clean and corporate business to it’s listeners. So i used a solid sans serif font Futura BT in a heavy and medium weight to balance the lines. I also needed a neutral to balance Pantone 275U, so i chose a Black 7U at 60% opacity to give me a rich grey.
